Salah El Din Citadel

Salah El-Din Citadel is one of the most prestigious military castles constructed in the Middle
Ages whose location is strategic since it controls the cities of Cairo and Al Fustat that's why the
citadel provides defensive importance. The Citadel was erected during the 12th century to
defend Cairo against the Crusaders and it was used as the seat of the government during the
ruling periods of Ayyubids, Mamluk, and Ottomans.

Mohamed Ali Mosque

Mohamed Ali Mosque proudly stands as the highest point inside Cairo Citadel which was
established by Mohammed Ali Pasha in 1830 AD and its erection continued till his death in 1848

Sultan Hassan Madrassa and Mosque

Sultan Hassan Madrassa and Mosque acts as one of the rarest pieces of the early Mamluk
architecture period which were founded between 1356 AD and 1363 AD. The mosque was built
out of giant blocks of stone which became the symbol of the culmination of all the architectural
projects during the reign of the Mamluks.

Ibn Tulun Mosque

Ibn Tulun Mosque is the oldest and largest mosque in Cairo which was established between
876 and 879 AD by Ahmed Ibn Tulun who was commissioned by the Abbasid Caliph to be the
governor of Al Fustat. The interior design of the mosque was derived from the Abbasid
architectural style and the mosque stands wonderfully decorated arches with a very large
courtyard.

Pompey's Pillar
Pompey's pillar is a massive 30 meters column constructed between 298–302 AD that lays over
the ancient settlement of Rhakotis. The site was constructed with Aswan red granite and the
column has risen out of the Temple of Serapeum.
Qaitbay Citadel
Qaitbay citadel is the most awe-inspiring monument in Alexandria constructed by Sultan
Al-Ashraf Sayf al-Din Qa'it Bay between 1477 AD to 1479 AD. This massive fortress was
established by Sultan Al-Ashraf Qaitbey to stop the attacks of the Ottomans.

Royal Jewelry Museum
A very gorgeous place in Alexander is the Royal Jewelry Museum. The mansion where the
museum is located was originally the residence of Princess Fatima Zahra, and is still reserved
for the royal family today, with a collection of royal treasures from the era of Muhammad Ali in
the 19th century. The museum is divided into two parts. The middle corridor can connect the two
sides and display the paintings of Ali's reign. The building on the right is the portrait of the royal
family, and on the left is the private jewelry display of King Farouk and the two queens. Learn
